Day 6

We had a mission today - to walk up to the castle

It’s 130 metres up and the zig zag path you have to take seems difficult, so we started with a lovely breakfast

I won’t be able to describe how nice the jam was - but it was lovely

We then set off for the castle

This was us half way up the zigzag path

Joss wanted to make it clear that she’s caught the sun more than me

We got all the way to the top and joined the queue of mostly Germans

We were livid

Not about the Germans, but about the fact that when we got there, we realised there was a bus that took people up!!!

As Joss commented very loudly, there should be a second, less deserving queue for those on the bus...

The other point to reiterate about Malaga is the sheer magnitude of flies

I don’t know if we’ve come at the wrong time but especially in the queue, it looked like we all had a similar tick as we all twitched and slapped the little buggers away

What added to the delay was that of the 4 ticket machines they possessed, only one was working...

Once in, the views were spectacular

We then of course had to come back down which Joss found actually harder than the ascent so we rewarded ourselves with a beer

Joss sat there for a while but wanted to people watch so moved her chair next to me, much like the people next to us had done

When they left, the waiter went berserk that the chair had been moved and not moved back, so the couple next to that made sure they replaced their chair when they left, to our πŸ‘

It was at this point that I mentioned yet again that my finger was hurting from trapping it in the window last night

To which, Joss replied, “if you make fun of me today, I’m gunning for your middle finger”

The Scottish lady that had sat down next to us almost spat her drink over her mother - that’s what happens when you don’t hear the whole conversation....

We then (after putting our chairs right) went to the Malaga cathedral and again, don’t tell me there’s no money in religion

We then went for lunch and fighting through the cruise line passengers we decided on a pizza

It was delicious

We then went to the Picasso museum - no pictures here (not allowed) but here are my thoughts, having been to this, the Louvre and the Guggenheim in recent years

People are sheep

They are told what is good by “experts” and we, the plebs, believe them

Why?

Honestly some of the stuff we saw I would do a better job

Art truly is within the eye of the beholder

I still can’t work out whether Picasso is the start of a great “movement” or he just wasn’t very good and did the best he could ....

We needed a beer after that to recover but then decided to do some shopping - or at least we would have done had we not seen a locals’ tavern sandwiched in between the “touristy shops” - well, it would have been rude not to, wouldn’t it?

We then went home for some more bread cheese ham until I crashed spectacularly with Joss joining me

The next thing that happened was me nudging joss awake at 9 asking whether she still wanted to go out tonight, secretly hoping she’d say no

My wishes came true and we called an end to this very tiring day

Thoughts of Malaga:

We now appreciate that our apartment, whilst not in the best area of town, serves its purpose very well and Malaga has very much improved in our opinions of it

We’ve seen some lovely areas for shopping and eating and look forward to exploring them more in the next couple of days

Just goes to show, you shouldn’t judge anything on first impressions πŸ˜„

Apart from the flies, they can f*** off .......
