Day 3

Image
We woke this morning at a much more reasonable 9am That’s not to say it didn’t take us over an hour to get out of the apartment but every step forward should be applauded We decided today to go to the main cathedral in Seville ( like Rome, Seville is littered with massive churches) Google maps took us a very scenic route through all the beautiful back streets  It’s no wonder that all of the cars have dents and scratches - they get so narrow This guy though has no chance of being able to leave his space We got to the cathedral and indeed it was very impressive- as was the queue - but it moved fairly quickly and we were soon in Helped in no small part by Joss blocking a way into the queue that she’d noticed people were using to cut in - only us Brits know how to queue properly  As I said - it was impressive inside I have many more photos, but this one disturbed me a bit It’s the head of John the Baptist  Although this one deserves a special mention too God only knows what’s...

Day 2

Last night it’s fair to say I went out like a light An early start, heavy cheese and alcohol consumption meant that was always going to be the case Our apartment is in a small, old town alleyway and we had the shutters closed which meant we were in complete darkness  All of which explains why I didn’t wake up until 11:30 - I feel like a teenager again I even had the hangover to prove it... Once up we decided to go to the “biggest wooden monument “ as described to us last night I’m going to have to agree - it was big, but I never got to grips with the why  In my opinion it was also dwarfed by the poor tuning of the bells of one of the million churches we have passed https://youtu.be/xY8zWNDpFS0 We were hungry then so Joss had some more Iberian Ham and olives, while I went for the spaghetti bolognaise  Needless to say, the olives looked foul and stank of garlic which did mean we had the pavement to ourselves most of the way to the plaza de espana  Which was VERY impres...

Day 1

I’d set my alarm for 04:45 but a mixture of excitement and fear meant that I woke up at 04:20 Excitement for the holiday - fear for the fact that this was the least prepared I’d ever been on a holiday Do people really travel abroad without a spreadsheet detailing an itinerary!!! Paul very kindly agreed to get up at 6 to take us to Bournemouth airport. I’m not sure what he’s done, or is going to do to warrant the need for such brownie points, but I appreciated it We’d never flown from Bournemouth before and it was strange to see something so small work so well.  Check in and security were very smooth and we got through quickly and found the pub  Joss was visibly disappointed when I asked for a tea to go with my bacon sarnie so I made it up to her by having a beer afterwards  That’s the kind of husband I am, selfless The gate opened and we were ushered into the “oiks” queue (non priority) as we had already checked our baggage in and weren’t trying to fit a handbag the size ...
