Day 9

It’s taken me 4 days but I’ve finally got used to the heat / air conditioning combination and got some sleep  True the alarm went off at 03:30 and it is the last day but still, you have to savour all the little victories  We were ready by 4 and listening out of the window Malaga was still very much in party mode We left the apartment at 4:15 to walk to the end of the alleyway and as we opened the main entrance door Joss was very dismayed to see a girl having a wee a little further into the alley A nice farewell  We waited no more than 5 minutes and the taxi that Eloise had recommended dutifully arrived Within 25 minutes we’d arrived at the airport and no more that 20 later we’d checked our bags in and were through security  We both ate some dry ham and cheese baguettes washed down with orange juice and a coffee for joss Our plane then was ready but we waited in our seats until the last moment as queuing when you already have seats just seems like madness On the plane...

Day 8

Image
As it was a late ending to yesterday it was a late start to today We were in no rush Breakfast was more of a brunch and I decided to reflect that in my choice by having Spanish omelette whilst Joss stuck to toast and jam We then went for a wander And despite all her efforts Joss could not find her shoe shop Unfortunately for me, she found a DIFFERENT shoe shop that had the same shoes - so I was no better off We did a bit more shopping before dropping the bags off to go out for lunch We decided to go to our bar for pre meal drinks then back to the restaurant of yesterday The first part went well with the red wine still delicious but at the restaurant we were accused of queue jumping by a waiter who clearly didn’t know what he was talking about That was until Joss explained in very fine detail before we left in a huff That restaurant’s loss was our gain as we found another and Joss had beef in a stroganoff sauce whilst I had chicken and pork paella  As you can see, I won the quantity...

Day 7

Image
I’m sad to admit that the thing I’ve missed most on the wonderful holiday is my pillow I spent until at least 3:30 swapping between 2 pillows that were too high and 1 pillow that was too low When did I become so soft ... Oh yes, when I got old - a long, long time ago... So we got up and had a quick brekkie before going to the second castle/fort of Malaga To get there we went through a main square where we thought we saw soldiers At least, I’m hoping they weren’t real soldiers... Once inside the fort, here’s Joss looking scared as there was no railing behind her I don’t know why, the sign was very clear Again, some of the views were lovely, and some not so much - I’ll leave you to decide which is which In our final leg of being culture vultures, we went to the Malaga museum. It was divided into 2 parts - art and excavation  We LOVED the first, weren’t so keen on the second I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to take pictures so just took a couple on the quiet to give you an appreciation ...

Day 6

Image
We had a mission today - to walk up to the castle It’s 130 metres up and the zig zag path you have to take seems difficult, so we started with a lovely breakfast  I won’t be able to describe how nice the jam was - but it was lovely We then set off for the castle This was us half way up the zigzag path Joss wanted to make it clear that she’s caught the sun more than me We got all the way to the top and joined the queue of mostly Germans We were livid Not about the Germans, but about the fact that when we got there, we realised there was a bus that took people up!!! As Joss commented very loudly, there should be a second, less deserving queue for those on the bus... The other point to reiterate about Malaga is the sheer magnitude of flies I don’t know if we’ve come at the wrong time but especially in the queue, it looked like we all had a similar tick as we all twitched and slapped the little buggers away What added to the delay was that of the 4 ticket machines they possessed, only ...

Day 5

Image
Unsurprisingly I was awake long before the 8:30 alarm so I got on with getting ready early which meant that we were both ready to leave for breakfast by 8:50 We decided to walk to the restaurant by the Cathedral for our last breakfast but having arrived just after 9 we found that it didn’t open until 9:30 and we were too hungry to wait that long so found another place around the corner A nice, continental breakfast hit the spot We then went back to make sure we’d packed everything and cleaned up all the rubbish and we said goodbye to the little apartment that had done us so well The walk to the train station took about 20 minutes by which time Joss had worked up a thirst  She was livid that on first inspection there were NO bars at the station You should have seen her “little face” when she saw the pumps at the furthest cafe - get in!!! We had time for a couple before going through security and boarding the lovely, spacious, clean, air-conditioned train The journey was worthy of no...
