Day 5
Unsurprisingly I was awake long before the 8:30 alarm so I got on with getting ready early which meant that we were both ready to leave for breakfast by 8:50

We then went to a tiny supermarket to buy a bottle of wine for tonight - when we got to the back, it opened up into this

Malaga might just be the party place I thought it might be - but I’m reserving judgement until I’ve been here a couple of days - I’m hoping there’s more to it than that
We decided to walk to the restaurant by the Cathedral for our last breakfast but having arrived just after 9 we found that it didn’t open until 9:30 and we were too hungry to wait that long so found another place around the corner
A nice, continental breakfast hit the spot
We then went back to make sure we’d packed everything and cleaned up all the rubbish and we said goodbye to the little apartment that had done us so well
The walk to the train station took about 20 minutes by which time Joss had worked up a thirst
She was livid that on first inspection there were NO bars at the station
You should have seen her “little face” when she saw the pumps at the furthest cafe - get in!!!
We had time for a couple before going through security and boarding the lovely, spacious, clean, air-conditioned train
The journey was worthy of note for 2 reasons. 1 Joss fell asleep almost immediately and woke up with 30 minutes to go
Coincidentally, with 29 minutes to go, the American couple adjacent to us started to have an argument. Problem was they were a little too far away for me to hear clearly and with Joss being deaf as a post (but nearer) we only made out a few words - such as trust and apology over and over again
Well, it passed the time
Our apartment was a 30 minute walk away and in 32 degree heat we opted for a taxi, which took us right into the centre of town and when he stopped he pointed up an alleyway with an O’Neil’s bar on the corner and 3 further bars in the alley - saying we were up there
Gulp - fingers crossed it didn’t get too “lively” later on
We thought we found the right place as we tried the access code given to us and it worked but to be sure we sent a picture of the place to the owner, who confirmed it WASN’T her place
Hahaha
That was lucky
We found the proper place eventually and it’s on the second floor - that could be tricky later on and probably had caused some concerns for previous residents judging by the dubious marks on the stone stairs
It’s slightly bigger than the first place with 2 singles in the room you walk into, and off that is another double, a bathroom and a kitchen/lounge/diner
It’s that last room that overlooks the alley so hopefully our sleep won’t be too disturbed
We were a bit peckish by then so went out for a burger which was nice except we were inundated by a) flies and b) voicemail messages from the owner trying to give as much info on the apartment as she could
We then went for a short walk to walk the burger off and yes, there were more churches
We then went to a tiny supermarket to buy a bottle of wine for tonight - when we got to the back, it opened up into this
Malaga might just be the party place I thought it might be - but I’m reserving judgement until I’ve been here a couple of days - I’m hoping there’s more to it than that
We settled in and Joss had a little snooze while I watched the athletics
When she got up we drank the wine and watched more until it got to past 9 and neither of us wanted to shower and go looking for food - we were just knackered
We compromised by watching the last event in the heptathlon before dashing to the shop and buying ciabatta, butter, cheese and hams along with some more wine and we dashed back to watch us win the women’s 200m
Yes I did manage to ask for 2 bags for the shopping in Spanish, but I don’t like to go on about it
We ate, we drank, we left our conquering of Malaga until tomorrow - we will aim for the castle
The day ended with me trapping my finger in the window as I couldn’t work out the blinds - good job Joss was on hand to help ....
